Grading System

Updated March 2016

At TIU, the following grading scales will be used to issue grades during the 2016/2017 academic year. Please use these scales when evaluating the performance of your students.

Students who entered TIU after 4/1/2016 (and all following students) will use the new grading scale.

Students who entered TIU prior to 4/1/2016 will continue to use the old grading scale (including those students who are repeating a Freshman-level course).


Students who entered TIU after 4/1/2016

New Grading Scale

  • [ A ] → [96 – 100] → [4.0]

  • [ A- ] → [92 – 95] → [3.7]

  • [ B+ ] → [88 – 91] → [3.3]

  • [ B ] → [84 – 87] → [3.0]

  • [ B- ] → [80 – 83] → [2.7]

  • [ C+ ] → [76 – 79] → [2.3]

  • [ C ] → [72 – 75] → [2.0]

  • [ C- ] → [68 – 71] → [1.7]

  • [ D+ ] → [64 – 67] → [1.3]

  • [ D ] → [60 – 63] → [1.0]

  • [ F ] → [0 – 59] → [0.0]


Students who entered TIU prior to 4/1/2016

Old Grading Scale:

  • [ S ] → [ 90 – 100 ]

  • [ A ] → [ 80 – 90 ]

  • [ B ] → [ 70 – 80 ]

  • [ C ] → [ 60 – 70 ]

  • [ F ] → [ 0 – 59 ]
